Jason Derulo has revealed that his latest single ‘Don’t Wanna Go Home’ was partly written about Jordin Sparks, which is why he referenced her in the lyrics of the new song.
During the hit track, which is the first taster of his upcoming third record, the R&B star can be heard singing “Sparks fly”, which he now admits was inspired by his girlfriend.
Discussing the song with the Daily Star this week, Derulo explained what makes it so special to him. “The Other Side was perfect for summertime,” he told the British newspaper, “plus it mentions fourth of July and that’s coming up.”
“It was on purpose I used the line ‘sparks fly’ referring to Jordin,” Jason added, before revealing that he has another song about Sparks on the record titled ‘Marry You’ – a song that shares his feelings on marrying the ‘No Air’ singer.
“‘Marry You’ is definitely Jordin’s favorite song,” he explained. “People ask all the time, ‘When are you getting married?’. When that day comes, the right time, it’ll be the best day of my life.
“Everything has to be aligned perfectly. I’m not putting pressure on myself, as in the song I’m singing, ‘When I say it, I’m going to mean it and it’ll be the best day of my life’.”
Talking about potential collaborators on the follow up to 2011’s ‘Future History’, Derulo sat down with British radio station Capital FM earlier today to discuss possible duets, when he named UK star Jessie J as an artist he’d love to work with.
“Jessie J’s a good friend of mine,” he shared. “I’d like to get in with her and do something. We may or may not have a song on the album together.”
As for other British artists he’s a fan of, Jason named rapper Tinie Tempah and singer Emeli Sande. “I mean you have such good talent here so there’s loads to choose from,” he added.
Derulo will be releasing his third (currently untitled) album later this year.
