It was recently reported that Britney Spears won’t be asked back for a second season of The X Factor later this year and now it turns out the singer has actually quit the show herself.
The pop princess joined the panel last summer and became a hit with fans, as did new judges Demi Lovato and L.A. Reid.
With L.A. recently announcing his departure from the contest, it’s claimed Brit has followed in his footsteps by leaving too.
Spears wants to focus on her music career in 2013, instead of being a talent show judge.
The I Wanna Go singer will be too busy to return as she’s currently working on her eighth album, which is due for release later this year.
The 31-year-old also plans to tour the record, meaning she has no time to mentor up-and-coming acts.
“Britney loves Simon, she likes Demi Lovato,” a source told TMZ, “but her thing is music.”
Show insiders recently claimed bosses were unhappy with Spears as she wasn’t entertaining enough for viewers.
“Britney will get the boot,” one source said. “Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn’t working.
“They paid all that for her to say ‘amazing’ and offer half-claps.
“Simon wanted crazy Britney, but he got boring Britney.”
